SHA-Based Health Accounts in the AsiaPacific Region Malaysia 1997-2006

The Malaysia National Health Accounts (MNHA) Project was launched in August 2001 and completed in September 2005. It collected data for the years 1997 to 2002 on Malaysia’'s national health expenditure covering both the public and private health sectors. Following the completion of the project, a MNHA Unit was established in 2005 to ensure that annual data for subsequent years were collected in a timely fashion. The subsequent cycle of data collection was carried out in 2006 to cover data on national health expenditure for the years 2003 to 2006. The MNHA framework was adapted from the OECD System of Health Accounts (OECD, SHA 2000) classification with minor modifications to suit local needs.
