SHA-Based Health Accounts in the Asia-Pacic Region Bangladesh 1997-2007

This report presents the results of the third round of Bangladesh National Health Accounts (BNHA). This round of BNHA has been developed and updated based on the System of Health Accounts (SHA) (OECD, 2000) classification. It tracks total health expenditure in Bangladesh between the fiscal years 1997 to 2007, cross-classified and categorized by financing agent, provider and function on an annual basis. BNHA defines Total Health Expenditure (THE) as all expenditures for the final use of resident units of healthcare goods and services, gross capital formation in healthcare provider industries, plus education and research expenditures of all healthcare providers during the accounting period. This concept of THE differs from that used in SHA in that it adds in outlays on health-related education and research. There are relative merits and demerits of presenting BNHA versus SHA estimates.
